mystery play reading.jpg

Once upon a time... two ladies were having an evening of timtams and wine discussing their experiences and favorite theatre memories. A mutual desire to get back into playwriting was discovered. The two ladies bantered about how lovely it would be to have a group of fellow writers that would get together to share their work, discuss, and help develop pieces into full plays. Theatre.unmasked was born through the playwriting group. The initial mission of the group revolved around helping to develop new scripts with a dream of one day actually producing shows. Well, it became very apparent within the first few meetings of the group that there were some very promising scripts in the works. The ladies realized they already had new work that they wanted to produce! Thus the performance side of the company was born. The spring and summer of 2011 consisted of a fundraiser event (an original cabaret style show) and a production of David Mamet's, Oleanna.

After the conclusion of Oleanna, t.u began the efforts of developing Mystery Play an original play by Evan Russell. The intention was to produce this in rep with Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett, but due to a whole host of challenges that come with being such a new company, it was never able to be mounted. However Mystery Play went through a great process of development including live readings and discussions at local bookstores with wonderful audiences.  This play is still something that they would love to produce... perhaps it will be seen soon.

With playwriting firmly underway and after the thrill of 2011's productions, the ladies of t.u couldn't stop brainstorming new projects and wonderful adventures to undertake. Two things were on their immediate radar: acting.unmasked (Classes for Kids and Teens)  and what would become their most successful undertaking yet Shakespeare in the Mill.

Now several years later these same projects are still going strong. Acting.Unmasked has turned into a series of Saturday Classes during the school year and a group of summer camps during the summer, with a large following and an annual youth production.
